how do you move money from your external account into your tangerine account?

I know this is a DUMB question. But I havent used my Tangerine account in many years. I see there is a link on my tangerine account that says Move My Money. Do I just click on that link and transfer the money? And most importantly will my external bank or Tangerine charge me for this transaction?

Yes, just use Move My Money. Tangerine won't charge you for transferring in or out, but your external bank might charge you for transferring money out.

That about sums it up.
You always do the actions through tangerine and they do the transfer to/from the linked account
You don't ever have to use the external bank interfaces unless you need them for other banking needs.

yes. But you will have to link accounts first before you transfer in/out money.

Link the accounts first
on the left of screen click on
My info and options then Links to external accounts
you can link up to three
plug in transit, bank number and account number of the account you want to link
it will take a day or two for them to confirm the link by placing a few pennies into your external account, which you then indicate how many back into the tangerine form to confirm it's your account
Always initiate transactions from your Tangerine account first
If you pull or push from Tangerine, there's never a charge
takes about a day or two

If it's a one time deal. Why not just write yourself a cheque and then use the online deposit?
If it's under $1000 you can just interac e-transfer

Silly question that's half-related to the OP's: can you link LOCs at other banks to Tangerine's move my money feature?

I have not been able to link a LOC, only an actual account from another bank.

Note that Tangerine will put a hold on some of your transfer for a week or so.

I have my TD LOC linked to Tangerine.

I have my TD LOC linked to Tangerine.

Did you use their online linking using a cheque from the LOC or have to call in? My Scotialine was not accepted. But my BMO chequing accounts were.

I mailed ING (at that time) a cheque from the LOC to link the accounts. I don't think the 'small deposits' method existed then.

I haven't set up a new connected account for a while now… And now since Tangerine offers free emails I kind of haven't use the service anymore

To link an external account on desktop, click your name in the top right, then Profile & Settings, then External Accounts. Then follow the instructions.

To do it on mobile, tap More, then Profile & Settings, then External Accounts. Then follow the instructions.

That's right, Tangerine does not charge for EFTs. If your other bank charges per transaction, though, you might incur a fee there.

EFTs are most useful when you want to transfer more than $3000 or you want to set up a transfer for a future date. Otherwise, just do an e-transfer.

And remember that pulling money via an EFT will probably incur a ~5 business day hold.

Thanks

I'm planning to transfer 50K from DUCA to Tang Saving (for 2% interest rate)

So, just add DUCA as External Ac in Tang and pull from Tang. Right?

Will I get paid Interest for those hold days? (if you know)

Yup. But the linking process will take 2-3 days, since Tangerine has to send microdeposits to your external account.
